Hillbillies have solid showing at Houghton

HOUGHTON — The Fredonia Hillbillies traveled to Houghton College on Saturday for the Team Championship Meet. The ‘Billies saw some strong performances including first place finishes and qualifications for sectionals.

In the track events, Diego Rey placed first overall in the 1,000m with a season best time of 2:36.94. Oliver Madariaga broke his own school record in the 300m with a time of 39.95 and Jack Carlson took eighth in the 1,600m with a time of 4:42.35.

In the field events, Kelly Lucas was able to qualify for the sectional meet in the high jump. Lucas had a jump of 4’8” that placed her sixth overall and second in Class C. For the boys, Hessen Bahgat finished fifth in high jump and sixth in pole vault reaching heights of 5’6″ and 11’6″, respectively.
