OBSERVER Staff Report

Even after finishing as the runner-up in the Class C1 girls basketball bracket this season, the Silver Creek girls were not done garnering attention, even headed into the offseason.

The CCAA Division 1 East All-Stars were announced this week, and with it, two Silver Creek girls were honored on the First and Second Teams, along with a Gowanda standout on the First Team, as well.

On the First Team, freshman phenom Abby Rice was selected after finishing the year averaging 20.4 points per game while grabbing 9.8 rebounds per game to go along with it. Abby Rice also scored her 1,000th point this season, and with three more years remaining, the sky is the limit for her potential.

Joining Abby Rice on the First Team was Gowanda’s own phenom in sophomore Miya Scanlan. Scanlan had an exceptional year, averaging a league-high 23.5 points per game, along with 9.4 rebounds and 5.3 steals per game.

Allegany-Limestone’s Tierney Hemphill, Randolph’s Sydney Hvizdzak and Portville’s Bryn Milne rounded out the First Team in the division. Aside from the First Team, Portville’s Karly Welty took home the Player of the Year honors in a fantastic season for the Panthers.

On the Second Team, Silver Creek was honored again, as Emma Rice was selected alongside her sister on the All-Star teams. Silver Creek’s Jaeleigh Cruz was also selected as Honorable Mention.
