Bills fans have plenty to be excited about with Oliver. He’s physically gifted and driven to prove himself on the field, especially after finishing his college career on a poor note after a stellar beginning to his time in Houston. Oliver fills a need on the defensive line in Buffalo after the departure of Kyle Williams, though Oliver is more of a pass rusher from the interior than Williams was. Oliver will certainly provide a lot of plays on the defensive line that fans will love to see once the season finally begins in the fall.
But Oliver showed something on Thursday night that Bills fans should already be excited about — and it didn’t even take a minute.
Shortly after being selected by the Bills, Oliver was clearly elated to be the newest member of the team. He was very animated throughout the night, from pacing down the tunnel toward the stage with a beaming smile on his face, to taking selfies with Bills fans in the crowd in Nashville, to his post-draft interviews in which Oliver said, “I feel like I need to be in Buffalo right now. … When I went there it was like I felt like I was at home. … It was like I was supposed to be there.”
Oliver is the latest in a long list of acquisitions who have gone above and beyond to praise the environment around the Buffalo Bills. From the organization and the coaching staff, to the locker room and to the fans, players are proving the narrative that no one wants to come to Buffalo dead wrong.

In early March, the Buffalo Bills had a trade agreement fall through with the Pittsburgh Steelers, in which the Bills were set to acquire Pro Bowl wide receiver Antonio Brown. Many different outlets reported that the deal was nixed because of Brown’s unwillingness to come to Buffalo. After that, football fans from across the country took to social media to joke about the Bills, blaming the organization and the atmosphere around Western New York for players not coming to Buffalo — rather than blaming the attention-starved, rainbow-haired diva wide receiver for forcing a trade to a larger market to feed into his ego. Brown was traded to the Oakland Raiders later in March and demanded a new contract upon the completion of the trade.
From that point on, the Bills moved on to finding players that wanted to be in Buffalo. In doing so, they added 18 players in free agency — more players than any team has signed this year. Center Mitch Morse and wide receivers John Brown and Cole Beasley all stated how excited they were to be in Buffalo. Brown said he took note of how Buffalo remained interested in him, despite signing elsewhere a year prior. Beasley said he chose Buffalo over New England and a return to Dallas because he wanted the opportunities Buffalo presented him. All three players were welcomed to the airport in Buffalo by fans who brought chicken wings as a welcoming present. Beasley said, “It was pretty exciting and awesome to show up to the airport and have wings waiting for me. … I was really excited to see that the fans were excited about me coming here. It’s always a good feeling when you have that support.”
After what we’ve seen this offseason, the Bills have made an obvious effort to add players who want to be here. Oliver is the latest name — and probably the biggest name, as well — to share that sentiment.
“I’m just so excited to be here. It’s everything that I thought it was going to be, plus more,” said Oliver after visiting the Bills facilities on Friday. “I’ve met everybody. I’ve met the Pegula’s. Great people in this building — defensive coordinator, head coach, defensive line coach, I met everybody today. Again, it’s everything I expected.”
The Bills got their guy in the first round on Thursday night, and thankfully, it seems like there’s nowhere else he’d rather be.
