Fredonia tennis stays hot in win over Maple Grove

Fredonia (2-0) was back on the courts on Monday against Maple Grove, in a Section VI tennis match at Fredonia High School. Fredonia battled against Maple Grove and earned a perfect 5-0 victory on the day.

The trio of Neil Gens, Dan Gifford and Jimmy Rush won the singles competition, without dropping a single set. Gens impressively only surrendered three points to his opponent.

Both Fredonia doubles teams earned 2-0 victories. The duo of Max Kinkela and Caleb Reynolds narrowly won their first set, 7-5, but won the second with ease, 6-2. The team of Trevor Napoli and Neil Cosico won their matches by a score of 6-3 then 6-2.

Fredonia improved to 2-0 and will travel to Panama today for a game.

“Fredonia players all played really well today,” said Fredonia Coach Lisa Johnston. “The singles players fought hard to win in straight sets and moved their opponents around the court to force errors. The doubles teams played especially well at net and worked well as a team despite this being only their second match playing together.”

Dunkirk gets first win over Cassadaga Valley, 5-0

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Marauders got their first win, 5-0, against Cassadaga Valley in a Section VI tennis match at Cassadaga Valley High School on Monday.

Dunkirk (1-2) swept the singles competition as Jordan Cooley was perfect, winning 2-0 with two 6-0 victories. Dom Begier also won 2-0 and only surrendered one point in his second set. Ryan Wills won his match via forfeit.

The doubles teams had identical 2-0 victories, winning 6-2 then 6-4. The first team was Joe Newton and Jeremy Bohn. The second team was Sebastian Degolier and Shawn Kelly.

Dunkirk is back on the courts today when they host Falconer.
