North Collins wins big; Brocton stumbles

High school softball roundup

SOUTH DAYTON — North Collins (1-1, 3-6) topped Pine Valley (1-2, 1-2), 16-1, in a Section VI CCAA Division 2 East softball game at Pine Valley High School, on Thursday.

Rebecca Holmes was in the circle for North Collins and tossed a complete game for the Lady Eagles. Holmes struck out seven and only allowed one earned run over seven hits.

The pitching for North Collins was great, but the offense stole the show. Myah Gabel went 3-5, with three triples and five RBI; Deanne Wilson went 2-3, with a big solo home run; and Emily Winter went 2-2, scored two runs and knocked in two more.

“It’s quite a turnaround,” said North Collins head coach Jan Warren. “We hit the ball a lot and put it in play. When they do what they’re supposed to do, they can play pretty well.”

Malori Waag was tasked with pitching to the Lady Eagles potent offense. Waag went seven innings, with three strikeouts and gave up 10 earned runs on 15 hits.

North Collins will host Ellicottville on Monday.

Pine Valley will travel to Falconer on Saturday.
