ONLINE ONLY: Frewsburg tops North Collins softball

OBSERVER Staff Report

NORTH COLLINS — The Frewsburg Lady Bears started off their league season as strong as they could have hoped, with a 14-1 victory over the North Collins Lady Eagles in a CCAA Division 2 East softball contest at North Collins High School.

MaKena Adams had herself quite a day to lead Frewsburg (5-1, 1-0) to its first league win. Adams pitched all seven innings, only allowed four hits, three walks, one run, while tallying eight strikeouts. Offensively, Adams went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and three RBI.

Adams had help offensively, as Frewsburg tallied 18 hits as a team. Kiah Johnson went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and two runs scored.

North Collins (2-6, 0-1) tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning on a home run by Emily Winter. DeAnna Wilson added two hits in the game, while Rebecca Holmes had a second inning single.

Morgan Smith started in the circle for North Collins. She finished with four innings pitched, six hits allowed, five runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Holmes pitched the rest of the way and struggled in her first regular season action after being away from the team to attend a hockey tournament in California.

“Frewsburg, I think, is going to be the team to beat in the league,” said North Collins head coach Jan Warren. “This game, it’s done already. We have to move on to the next game.”

North Collins doesn’t have any time to dwell on Wednesday’s loss, as the Lady Eagles travel to Pine Valley today at 5 p.m.
