Dunkirk’s Petrella wins 400m dash at Super 8 meet

OBSERVER Staff Report

SALAMANCA — The Dunkirk Marauders track team sent a handful of athletes to the Super 8 meet Friday night in Salamanca. Among the competitors, Dunkirk saw some good placements — a great preparation for the county championships next weekend.

For the girls, Jericha Petrella was the only participant. Petrella continued her dominance in the 400m race, winning with a time of 59.55s.

In the boys competitions, Jonah Rosas took fifth in the 100m and then took third in the 200m. Devin Eddy took fourth in the long jump, Miracle Berakah placed sixth in the 400m and Anthony Ruiz was eighth in the 800m.

The team of Rosas, Eddy, Berakah and Ruiz took third in the 4x100m relay. Then the team of Matt Hanlon, Rosario, Ruiz and Berakah took third in the 4x400m relay.

“The boys 4×1 knows they have some work to do but of there weren’t things to fix that would be a problem,” said Dunkirk Coach Adam Woelfle. “The boys really want that 4×4 as well and you can see it. They fought hard that race and improved their time, and look to make a run at sectionals.”
