Fredonia boys track team loses first meet of the year, while Brown shines in Lady ‘Billies loss, 113-23

The Fredonia Hillbillies fell to the league’s top team, Southwestern, in a boys track and field matchup at Fredonia High School on Tuesday, 93-43.

Despite the first loss of the year, Fredonia (3-1) did manage to have four individuals and one relay team claim first place on the day. In the 100m, Dyress Batten took first place in 11.7, while Oliver Madariaga took first place in the 200m in 23.7. Fredonia had a pair of winners in field events as well, as Rian Budzinski won the long jump with a mark of 19-feet-2-inches and Hessen Bahgat won the pole vault with a mark of 12-feet. The Fredonia 1,600m relay team of Kevin Redfield, Alex Field, Ledreth Velez-Olmo and Madariaga took first in 4:02.10.

The Fredonia girls also fell to Southwestern on Tuesday, by a score of 113-23. Fredonia’s Emily Brown took first place in the 400m hurdles in 1:07.9 and the 800m run in 2:41.4. She was also part of two winning relay teams, the 4×400 and the 4×800, along with Anna Buchanan and Claire Lanski. Buchanan also took second in the triple jump.

Fredonia’s final regular season meet will be next Tuesday, as the Hillbillies host Olean.
