OBSERVER Staff Report

The Fredonia Hillbillies boys track team came out on top of a nail-biter against Falconer/Cassadaga Valley on Tuesday in Fredonia, 71-70, at Fredonia High School.

Hessen Bahgat took first in the pole vault for Fredonia with 11-feet, while also winning the 110m hurdles in a time of 17.9 seconds. Nate Shuart took first in the shot put with a throw of 37-feet-one-inch, along with a win in the discus with a throw of 109-feet. Rian Budzinski won the 400m hurdles in 1:05.0 and took first in the long jump as well, with a mark of 16-feet-11-inches. Joell Colon won the 100m dash in 11.3 seconds, while Diego Rey won the 800m for Fredonia in 2:16.60. Fredonia also took first in the 1,600m relay with a time of 3:47.00 from Kevin Redfield, Alex Fields, Ledreth Velez-Olmo and Oliver Madariaga. Fields, a freshman, also placed second in the 400 hurdles and the long jump. The Fredonia boys improve to 3-0 and will compete next on Friday at the Joe Paterniti Jamestown Classic Invitational.

The Fredonia girls were not as fortunate as the boys were as a team, falling 100-38, though the Lady ‘Billies had plenty of individuals to be proud of on Tuesday.

Emily Brown was first in two individual events for Fredonia. She won the 3,000m run in a landslide, as well as winning the 1,500m in a personal best time of 4:57.00. Brown was also part of the winning 4x800m relay team, along with Claire Lanski and Anna Buchanan. Lanski and Buchanan each also won as part of the 4×100 relay team. Ashlyn Abrose was also part of the winning 4×800 relay, while Paige Supkowski and Adriana Pucci were part of the winning 4×100 relay for Fredonia.
