Gowanda wins on Senior Night, 4-1 over Frewsburg

GOWANDA — The Gowanda Panthers (8-2, 15-3) took care of Frewsburg (8-6) for a 4-1 win on their Senior Night, in a Section VI non-league baseball game, at Gowanda High School, on Thursday. Tanner Olson went the distance in a pitchers duel, giving up just three hits and one run, while striking out six and walking one in the 4-1 victory.

Nick Marsh started on the mound for Frewsburg, and pitched four innings while allowing all four Panther runs on five hits and two walks. Nolan Brink finished the game on the mound for Frewsburg.

The damage was dealt early by Gowanda, as Justin Kohn hit a RBI triple in the first inning. Matt Smuda added to the offense with a double and a RBI sac fly, Brendan Weinaug had a RBI double and John Ondus also hit a double.

Jason Dustin scored the lone run for Frewsburg.

Gowanda played all seven of their seniors in the game for Senior Night. The players being honored were: Tanner Olson, Jaren Vester, Zack Smith, Brendan Weinaug, Matt Smuda, Nick Siragusa and Justin Kohn.

“It was night to have the seven seniors in the lineup,” said Gowanda head coach Tim Smith. “It was nice to see them have their moment in the spotlight.”

Frewsburg will look to get back in the win column today when they play Ellicottville. Gowanda plays Eden on Monday night.
