OBSERVER Staff Report

The Fredonia Lady ‘Billies sure seem to be gearing up for the playoffs, especially offensively. In Thursday’s CCAA Division 1 West softball contest with Cassadaga Valley, the Lady ‘Billies had what Fredonia head coach Jesse Beers referred to as “without a doubt” their best offensive game of the season in a 15-1 win over Cassadaga Valley, at Fredonia High School.

Fredonia (9-2, 9-2) tallied 17 hits off Cassadaga Valley starting pitcher Brittyn LeBaron, and also walked five times and had a batter reach on a hit by pitch, as well.

Leading the way offensively for Fredonia was Kazlin Beers, who tallied four hits for the Lady ‘Billies, including a double. Sydney Bigelow — fresh off signing her letter of intent on Wednesday to play college softball at Mercyhurst North East — added three hits, including a double. Grace Mroczka had a double and a triple for Fredonia, while Kelly Gullo had a pair of doubles. Caelin Holt and Kelly Lucas also each had two hits in the contest.

“We had quality at-bats all around,” said Coach Beers, who highlighted that his team showed patience and discipline at the plate throughout the game.

Fredonia scored a pair of runs in the first inning, but a nine-run second inning broke the game wide open. Cassadaga Valley graciously allowed the game to go the distance to give Fredonia more opportunities at the plate, as the Lady ‘Billies were forced to cancel every one of their non-league games to date.

Cassadaga Valley (0-14, 0-11) scored a run in the seventh inning after a triple by Hannah Edwards. She later came in to score on a wild pitch. Brittyn LeBaron added a pair of hits for Cassadaga Valley, including a double.

Fredonia hosts Falconer today at Fredonia High School in the league finale for the Lady ‘Billies.
