Marauders move on at Counties

OLEAN — The Dunkirk Marauders track team traveled to Olean High School on Friday for the first day of the CCAA League Championship Meet. Friday consisted of qualifying rounds for the sprints, finals for the 800m and two mile races, and several field events were held.

For the finals on Friday, Efrain Santiago and Ethan Yannie ran the 800m, with Yannie placing 20th and Santiago earning 23rd. For the girls Siera Jacques and Siera Porpiglia both ran, with Jacques finishing 21st and Porpiglia 23rd.

In the field, Zac Cooper and Owen Fred threw shotput for 12th and 25th place finishes, respectively. Reyes took 21st in the triple jump and Gabby Hart took 13th in the long jump.

For the qualifying events, the meet started with the boys 4×100 team of Jonah Rosas, Devin Eddy, Nelson Rosario and Miracle Berakah earning the top time and qualifying for today’s finals.

In the 110m hurdles, Josiah Cox, Eddy and Matt Hanlon qualified for today’s race. In the 200m hurdles, Rosas and Rosario qualified for today. In the 400m hurdles, Cox, Hanlon, and Miracle Berakah qualified for today’s race, while Josh Cooper failed to qualify. For the girls 110m hurdles, Jericha Petrella ran the fastest time and teammate Octavia Porter qualified too. In the 200m hurdles, Porter was able to qualify for today’s race.

“It was good to see the majority of our athletes make it through the rounds today,” said Dunkirk coach Adam Woelfle. “Some performances better than expected, so we hope they continue that trend. Others didn’t run as fast as they would have liked, but are motivated to come back tomorrow and run even faster.”

The meet will resume again today at Olean High School.
