Miya Scanlan sets NY State single game scoring record

GOWANDA — Miya Scanlan led Gowanda to a 29-2 win in a girls lacrosse game on Thursday night against Springville. As impressive as the score is, Scanlan’s individual performance is what will be remembered for years to come.

Scanlan scored 16 goals in the contest on Thursday night, setting a NY State record for goals in a single game in high school girls lacrosse. The previous NY State record was 15 goals in a game set in 2002 by Shari Maslin of Clarkstown North.

Scanlan is also a decorated volleyball and basketball player at Gowanda. She was named to the CCAA Division 1 East All-Stars this past basketball season, averaging 21.5 points per game, with 9.1 rebounds per game, as well.
