North Collins splits Hae Jude contests

SILVER CREEK — The North Collins Lady Eagles (6-4, 9-9) came out of the Hae Jude tournament with a win and a loss on Saturday. After dropping the first game to Randolph, 5-4, North Collins turned it around with a big win over Allegany-Limestone, 9-1.
North Collins went with Rebecca Holmes in the first game and got a strong outing, until the Lady Cardinals cracked the code, scoring five runs to win it in the bottom of the seventh, 5-4. Holmes pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up five earned runs, over nine hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
The Randolph offense that led the comeback was powered by Kendall Steward going 3-for-4 with a RBI double and Ella Conley went 1-for-3 with a double. Abbigail Mansfield was in the circle for Randolph and pitched all seven innings, giving up four runs, over nine hits and struck out four.
North Collins early lead was built by Holmes going 3-for-3, McKenna Williams added a triple and scored a run, and Emily Winter went 2-for-3 with a double.
The Lady Eagles responded to blowing a five run lead in the first game, by coming out and dominating Allegany-Limestone. Rebecca Holmes was back in the circle and pitched a one-hitter, giving up her only hit in the bottom of the seventh to Tierney Hemphill. Holmes ended the game giving up one hit, one walk and striking out six for the win.
Kortney Magara was the losing pitcher for the Lady Gators, giving up 12 hits and seven earned runs to the Lady Eagles offense.
North Collins was led offensively by Haley Jasinski went 3-for-5 including a two RBI double, Kayla Dechow went 2-for-3 with a two RBI double and Selena Maciejewski went 4-for-4 with three RBI.
“It’s a nice tournament,” said North Collins head coach Jan Warren. “We played well. I’m a little disappointed that we lost the first game, but we handled it well and won the second game. They’re getting better, we’re coming up to the second season when the playoffs starts.”
North Collins’ next game will be determined during the playoff seeding meetings.
