Westfield Academy junior track and field athlete McKayla Wolfe will compete today for the NY State High Jump championship at the State Championship track and field meet at Middletown High School, in Middletown — nearly six hours away. She joins Dunkirk’s Jericha Petrella and Fredonia’s Emily Brown at the State meet, who also both qualified to make the trip a week ago at the Section VI championships.

Last week, Wolfe finished fourth in the high jump at the Sectional meet. She finished first during the County Championships with a mark of 5-feet-3-inches.

“She worked very hard to get here and she is excited,” said Westfield track and field coach John Jafarjian.

Wolfe was sent off for the trip to States on Thursday morning, with support from the school and the Westfield Fire Department. Her parents, Jason Wolfe and Amanda Ross, each wish her luck and state how proud they are of her.
