South Orangetown wins twice Saturday to earn spot in State title game

South Orangetown won twice Saturday to advance to the championship round of the Little League Softball New York State 8-10 tournament at Dunkirk Little League’s Joe Karnes Field on the Ed Wisniewski Complex.

Wins over Longwood, 6-1, and Maine Endwell, 6-5, set up a meeting vs. unbeaten Penfield (3-0) at 11 a.m. today. South Orangetown will need to win twice and Penfield once to claim the state championship.

Here are Saturday’s recaps:

South Orangetown 6, Longwood 1

The winners took command with five runs in the second inning and Sullivan pitched a complete-game four-hitter with seven strikeouts. Adrianna D’Orio ripped a two-run single during the second inning. Savannah Nordstrom also had an RBI with one of her two hits.

Each team scored a run in the fifth inning. Longwood cut the deficit to 5-1 on a walk and singles by Veronica Schag and Victoria Kharabdshu. South Orangetown got the run back on a single by Nordstrom, who later scored from third on a pop out to first base.
