Youth Fishing Derby held by Westfield Fish & Game Club

Submitted Photos. Pictured are the top three participants from each age group.

On Saturday, June 15 the Westfield Fish & Game Club hosted its Youth Fishing Derby with the help of the Westfield Recreation Department and the sponsors listed.

We had 57 kids from the ages of 4-12, along with parents, grandparents or other family or friends accompanying them. The rain drops held off until the very end and the temperature warmed up enough to enjoy the day.

I do believe that almost everyone caught a fish. I know everyone had fun. The kids were awarded gifts of fishing poles or fishing gear. Three lucky kids from each age group, 4-7 year olds and 8-12 year olds, got first choice of their own fishing pole donated by either the Fishing Federation or Bill’s Hooks located in Dunkirk.

The kids from the 8-12 year old age group are:

1. Danny Bratton, fish weight of 3.13 lbs

Pictured are the participants from the Youth Fishing Derby.

2. Ashton Stapleton, fish weight of 1.43 lbs

3. Cole Tenamore, fish weight of 1.24 lbs

The kids from the 4-7 year old age group are:

1. Kayliann Fisher, fish weight of 3.49 lbs

2. Addison Haley, fish weight of 1.69 lbs

3. Kase Keefe, fish weight of 1.18 lbs

We had approximately 30 poles and lots of other fun fishing gear to pass out. Everyone went home with something. We had a surprise donation from Browns Red Neck Sporting Charters of a charter ride on Lake Erie. The lucky recipient of that was Addison Haley.

We would like to thank the following sponsor’s and volunteers for the donations and time.

Bills Hooks, Dunkirk, NY, Westfield Bait & Tackle, Barcelona Markets, Growers Cooperative Grape Juice, Browns Red Neck Sporting Charters, Tops Markets-Westfield Store, Wegmans-Jamestown Store, Walmart-Dunkirk Store, Sam’s Club-Erie Store, Fish USA-Fairview Store, Andrew Webster from Westfield Recreation Department, Shane Bush, John and Sandy Swartout, John Issler, Neil, Bev Damcott, Mike Dulmus, Tim Farnham, Mike Cluchey, Stanley Rupczk, Lucas Dooley and Ron Catalano.

Three young men from Westfield High School helping out earning hours toward their community service were Tyler Ptak, Brayden Kneer and Lincoln Paternosh.
