Cassadaga Valley beats Fredonia in 3 tight sets

OBSERVER Staff Reports

The Fredonia Lady ‘Billies battled back in each set on Friday night, but the rallies came just a little too late. In the end, the Cassadaga Valley Cougars came out on top of all three sets, 27-25, 25-21, 25-19, in a CCAA North volleyball match at Fredonia High School.

“The first set was point for point. It was very tight throughout,” said Fredonia coach Amanda Krakowiak.

Fredonia (2-3, 2-3) rallied back to tie the first set at 24-24, before Cassadaga Valley (4-2, 4-0) came away with the win. The Cougars jumped out to a lead of 19-8 in the second set, but Fredonia battled back before eventually falling 25-21. Then in the third set, Fredonia fell behind early again and fought to keep it close, but Cassadaga Valley pulled away once again to finish the contest.

“We rallied back a few times, which is nice to see,” said Krakowiak. “We just needed to do it a little earlier.”

Fredonia’s Tess Corell contributed 12 assists and three aces, while Nagely Vazquez had eight kills, three aces and three blocks and Anna Valone had five aces and three kills in the defeat.
