Lady ‘Billies win again, T’Birds fall to Maple Grove
LAKEWOOD — The Fredonia Lady Billies bested Southwestern, 4-1, in a league match at Southwestern, Tuesday afternoon.
In first singles, it was Billies standout Bernie Gens taking down Southwestern’s Hiba Munir 6-0, 6-0.
Alicia Kluck paced Fredonia (4-0) in second singles, taking down Liz Kane, 6-2, 6-1, with Selin Arnavut beating Southwestern’s (1-3) Isabelle Meyers 6-0 6-3 in the third singles match.
Fredonia also took the first doubles match, with Marissa Burr and Victoria Miller getting the best of Southwestern’s Christine Deming and Olivia Allen, 6-2 5-7 6-3.
Southwestern’s second doubles Morgan Wilson and Hailey DeLong were able to find vitory over Fredonia’s Mia Gullo and Juli Glowniak 6-0, 6-0.
Maple Grove 3, Chautauqua Lake 2
MAYVILLE — In a well played match, the Maple Grove Lady Red Dragons came out on top in a divisional match over the Lady Thunderbirds, 3-2.
The deciding match was between Emily Bauer and Jenna Hayes at first singles, in what was a close match all the way through, with Maple Grove’s Hayes pulling out the victory, 6-7(5-7), 6-4, 6-4, with both girls being highly competitive and showing great sportsmanship.
Maple Grove (1-1) also took the other two single matches over Chautauqua Lake (2-2) for their other two wins with Emma Collins defeating Logan Walzcak, 6-2, 6-3 and Ryann Hayes beating Elizabeth Marshaus, 7-5, 6-2.
Chautauqua Lake took both doubles matches, as the first doubles team of Kira Erikson and Elise Riedesel defeated Allison McCall and Emily Shick, 6-1, 6-0 and the second doubles team of Abby Paulus and Naomi Fisher taking down Abby Newman and Paige Dalrymple, 6-1, 6-0.
Chautauqua Lake and Fredonia will meet Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
