Wolverines soccer stays hot with win over Randolph, 1-0

RANDOLPH — The Westfield/Brocton boys soccer team held off Randolph, 1-0, in a Section VI non-league boys soccer game at Randolph High School, on Thursday.

The Wolverines (4-0) continued their hot start to the season with a hard fought win over Randolph, 1-0. Jason Almeter was called to duty again for another big goal in the 17th minute on an assist from Darien Swanson. Almeter’s goal was the only goal in the narrow victory for Westfield/Brocton.

“Offensively we struggled a little bit,” stated Westfield/Brocton head coach Jared Winder. “Randolph did a good job adjusting after playing us two days ago. When we got in those dangerous areas to score we had a difficult time finishing.”

Randolph (0-2) went with Ethan Shields in net and he stood tall with four saves on five shots. However, it was Michael Johnson who won the goaltending duel with five saves for the clean sheet.

“It was a well played physical game,” added Coach Winder. “Our defense did a phenomenal job limiting Randolph’s opportunity to score.”

The Wolverines next matchup will be their first league game as they travel to Silver Creek on Wednesday.
