Dunkirk wins non-leaguer

OBSERVER Staff Report

DUNKIRK — The Dunkirk Lady Marauders came out on top of a non-league girls volleyball game on Wednesday against Salamanca in three sets at Dunkirk High School. The scores were 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21 in favor of Dunkirk.

“It seems like we finally have a system in place that is seeing results,” said Dunkirk coach Kate Stahlman. “They have come a long way since the start of the season.”

The Lady Marauders were led by Nadara Odell with eight kills and three aces, while Amari Carter had six kills and three aces. Jessica Beehler and Gina Salerno also each added three aces for the Lady Marauders in the win.

“The girls are starting to play smarter and work together to figure out our best coverage, especially on blocks. Communication has also improved since the beginning of the year,” said Stahlman.

Dunkirk (9-5, 7-5) has a non-league match at Jamestown on Friday at 5 p.m. The Lady Marauders return to league play next Wednesday, Oct. 16, at Silver Creek.
