The Fredonia Hillbilles took down the Dunkirk Marauders in three sets on Tuesday night, 25-20, 25-21, 26-24, in a girls volleyball game at Dunkirk High School to kick off rivalry week between the two schools, with the football game scheduled for Friday night.

For Fredonia, Nagely Vazquez had 14 kills, while Anna Valone had 10 kills. Becca Piede had two aces and 19 assists, and Tess Correll had nine assists.

“The girls worked really hard and brought a lot of energy. I was very proud of them,” said Fredonia coach Amanda Krakowiak.

The third set of the match featured both teams going back and forth, matching each other point for point. Krakowiak is proud of her team’s fight in the game.

“It was point for point,” Krakowiak said. “We were down by three or four at a couple points. The girls had to rally for a tie at the end. It was going back and forth down to the very end. They really had to dig deep and fight to finish.”
