OLEAN — After a long bus ride to Olean on Wednesday, Fredonia hopped off the bus as ready as ever to take it to the Olean Huskies. After five goals in the first half, the Hillbillies’ statement was loud and clear: Fredonia came ready to play.

Fredonia defeated Olean by a score of 6-0 in a CCAA West boys soccer game at Olean High School on Wednesday afternoon.

“The guys came out ready to go. We put them on their heels early,” said Fredonia coach Jim Rush. “To put five on Olean in the first half, we took it to them. We played really well.”

In the eighth minute, Nate Hall got Fredonia (5-4-2, 5-2-2) on the board. Liam Jones followed with a pair of goals in the 18th and 20th minutes, then Kam Mages scored in the 28th minute. Dawson Bird scored in the 34th minute for the fifth goal before the break.

In the second half, Alex Rush scored in the 58th minute on an assist from Jones. Fredonia managed 15 shots on goal, while the Hillbillies keeper, Tyler Rosen, was only forced to make two saves.

“It was a good team win. With two games left until the playoffs, we’re headed in the right direction,” said Jim Rush.

Fredonia travels to Randolph on Friday, then finishes next Wednesday at Falconer/Cassadaga Valley.
