Thunderbirds, Golden Cougars suffer losses

RANDOLPH — The Randolph Cardinals took down the Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton Thunderbirds 24-7 on Friday night.

The Thunderbirds held a 7-0 lead after the first quarter, but the Cardinals were consistent with eight points in each of the three remaining quarters pacing the way to their victory.

The Cardinals main way of attack was on the ground, posting 157 yards on the ground, while the Thunderbirds only managed 89. The Cardinals added 92 yards passing compared to the Thunderbirds 44.

Chautauqua Lake (2-4, 2-3) will play their final game of the season against the Allegany Limestone Gators on Friday, Oct. 18 in Allegany.

Allegany-Limestone 32, Cassadaga Valley/Falconer 8

FALCONER — The Cassadaga Valley/Falconer Golden Cougars fell to the Allegany-Limestone Gators 32-8 on Friday night.

The scoring got started in the second quarter, as the Gators scored back to back touchdowns , one on a five yard pass from running back Logan Klice to quarterback Thomas Callen that gave the Gators a 7-0 lead. Klice scored the next touchdown himself, rushing it in from 10 yards out to extend the lead to 14-0.

The Golden Cougars got on the scoreboard as sophomore Noah Abram rushed it in from just outside the goal line, with Colin Mower punching in the two point conversion, making the score at halftime 14-8.

The Gators got off to a quick start in the second half as well, scoring two more touchdowns in the third quarter, with Klice getting another one on his legs, this time running it for 70 yards, though they failed to convert the two point try.

Later in the third, Callen found Jayden Gustafson on a nine yard pass to push the score to 26-8.

The final score for the Gators was a 91 yard interception return by Matt Giardini, extending the lead to 32-8 and securing a victory for the Gators.

Klice ended the day with 18 carries for 146 yards, two rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown.

The Golden Cougars (1-5, 1-4) will play their final game against Southwestern, in Lakewood on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
