Westfield/Brocton blanks Frewsburg

OBSERVER Staff Report

WESTFIELD — The Westfield/Brocton Lady Wolverines took care of business on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Frewsburg in a CCAA Central girls soccer game at the NorthLake Soccer Complex.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Wolverines broke through with a goal by Sheala Barresi off a beautiful feed by division-leading scorer Katie Bodenmiller. The goal came in the 18th minute of the second half.

“Katie Bodenmiller played her head off today,” said Westfield/Brocton coach Neil Huber.

The defense kept Frewsburg scoreless, forcing all of the shots from distance. All-Star goalkeeper Angel Busch made 14 saves in the victory.

“Frewsburg is very well-coached,” said Huber. “Our players really stepped up and played great defense. Laura Johnston and Katie Bodenmiller played so well for us (Tuesday). … It was just a great game all around.”

After suffering their first defeat last Thursday, Westfield/Brocton responded with a 4-0 win over Pine Valley on Friday to keep the hopes of the top seed in Class C within reach. After Tuesday’s win, the Lady Wolverines can clinch the top seed with a win on Thursday at home against Maple Grove.
