Devin Pope shines in first game of sophomore year at Penn State Behrend
OBSERVER Staff Report
ERIE, Pa. — Former Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds three-sport star Devin Pope had the highlight of his collegiate athletic career on Tuesday night for the Penn State Behrend Lions. Pope scored a game-high 25 points in Tuesday’s 94-73 win over the Thiel Tomcats in Greenville, PA.
After switching from his initial commitment to Geneseo, Pope had a freshman season at Penn State Behrend in 2018-19 where he did not see the court as much as he was used to in high school at Chautauqua Lake. The former 2,000 point scorer in high school played just 5.3 minutes per game and averaged 2.2 points per game last season in 17 games, without a start.
This year, Pope earned the start in the season opener and made the most of his opportunity. Pope played a team-high 33 minutes on Tuesday and shot 10-for-15 from the field, including 2-for-5 from 3-point range. He also had three steals, three rebounds and a block.
Pope’s Penn State Behrend team is back on the court on Wednesday, Nov. 20 against Allegheny in the Lions’ home opener, at 7 p.m.
