Fredonia’s Spacc wins Sectional title

Earlier this week, Fredonia’s Tori Spacc set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke, breaking a record previously held by Fredonia swim legend Riley Drummond.

Friday, Spacc broke her own record, and became a Sectional Champion in the process.

Spacc’s time of 1:07.95 broke her own school record in the 100 breaststroke and claimed the Section VI, Class B girls swimming title on Friday at the Section VI Championships.

As a team, Fredonia finished fourth in Class B, with plenty of notable finishes. In the 200 IM, Spacc finished second in the class, while Jenna Sherlock took ninth and Abby Roth was 10th. In the 50 freestyle, Amelia Harper was fourth, while Lillee Gould was 10th. Harper and Gould both finished in the top 10 in the 100 freestyle, as Harper took fifth and Gould was eighth. Also with top 10 finishes were a pair of sisters in the diving event, as Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer took fourth place and Alexandra Pucci-Schaefer claimed seventh place. Julia Fortna was 10th in the 200 freestyle and 13th in the 500 freestyle, while Roth was 11th in the 100 backstroke and Jenna Truby was 14th in the 100 butterfly. Sherlock was also 14th in the 100 breaststroke.

Three Fredonia relay teams all finished in the top five in Class B on Friday, led by the 200 medley relay team of Roth, Spacc, Harper and Sherlock, which took third overall. The 200 freestyle relay team of Gould, Julia Fortna, Jane Fortna and Sherlock was fifth, as was the 400 freestyle relay team of Harper, Gould, Julia Fortna and Spacc.

Next up for the Fredonia swim team is the Sectional State Qualifier event, which is the last chance for the Lady ‘Billies to qualify for the State Championships. The diving portion will be Thursday at Maryvale High School, while the swimming portion is Friday at the University at Buffalo. Spacc has already qualified for the State meet in the 100 breaststroke and Elizabeth Pucci-Schaefer has already qualified in the diving event.
