SALAMANCA — Gowanda junior Miya Scanlan etched her name into the record books as she recorded her 1,000th career point in a victory over the Salamanca Lady Warriors at Salamanca High School, on Tuesday night.

Scanlan needed 21 points to achieve the 1,000 point milestone and she was able to reach it before halftime. The 1,000th point was scored from the free throw line just before halftime and it was only known when it was brought attention to the team by the scorekeeper.

At halftime, the Lady Panthers had a sizeable lead, so Scanlan only added two more points for a total of 23 before sitting the rest of the game.

“She makes it look easy,” stated Gowanda head coach Ross John. “I’m proud of her and I’m glad that her parents and grandparents were there to see it.”

Early in her junior season, Scanlan will have plenty of time to add to her scoring total. The next opportunity will be on Friday, Dec. 20 when Gowanda hosts Pioneer.
