Lady T’birds beat Jamestown 66-62

OBSERVER Staff Report

JAMESTOWN — Chautauqua Lake’s Alexis Jacobson scored 20 points and the Thunderbirds held off a late Jamestown rally en route to a 66-62 non-league girls basketball win Saturday at McElrath Gymnasium.

Chautauqua Lake led by as many as nine with around a minute left before the Red Raiders made it close. Lauren Tracy hit a 3-pointer to make it a six-point game and after Chautauqua Lake missed a pair of free throws, Marley Drake hit a 3-pointer to make it 65-62 with less than five seconds remaining. The Thunderbirds, who hit just 10 of 23 free throws in the game, made one of two to provide the final margin.

Rebecca Henry added 13 of her 15 points in the middle two quarters before fouling out early in the fourth quarter while Lily Woodis added 12 points and six assists for Chautauqua Lake (2-1). Jacobson chipped in three steals and Hannah Weise had 11 rebounds.

“She picked up the slack,” Thunderbirds head coach Bill Persons said of Jacobson. “She really attacked them. We were tied at halftime and they got our attention. They put a lot of pressure on the outside and took us out of what we normally do.”

Drake led Jamestown (2-1) with 17 points while Jill Kindberg added 14.
