BRYN ATHYN, Pa. — Fredonia State men’s hockey began its second semester with a 3-3 tie Saturday at Bryn Athyn.

Ryan Dunner, Jacob Haynes, and Ethan Kirbis scored for the Blue Devils (2-7-4) while Dalton Jerzak made 21 saves. The Blue Devils outshot the Lions (7-6-3), 33-24. All three Bryn Athyn goals were of the power-play variety.

The teams traded goals throughout the game. Bryn Athyn’s Jake Heckenberger opened the scoring at 13:11 of the first period. It stayed that way until 4:20 of the second period when Dunner netted his sixth goal of the season. A power-play goal by Vojtech Luza at 15:46 of the second period put the Lions back on top, 2-1.

The see-saw swung Fredonia State’s way when Haynes scored a short-handed goal at 19:19 of the second period. It was his fifth goal of the season and Fredonia State’s first short-handed goal of the season. Bryn Athyn answered 14 seconds later on a goal by Dakota Ulmer to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

Momentum shifted again when the Fredonia State power play finally cashed in early in the third period. A goal by Kirbis, his second of the season, came on the Blue Devils’ eighth power-play chance of the game. It came at the 3:47 mark.

Fredonia State was 1 of 10 overall on the power play and 3 of 6 on the penalty kill.

The Blue Devils have six days to prepare for their next game, a home date on Friday night against SUNY Canton.
