Blue Devils top Oswego, 71-52

OSWEGO — The Fredonia State women’s basketball team picked up its first SUNYAC win of the season with a convincing 71-52 win at Oswego on Friday. Lauren Mickley led the offense with 15 points and added eight rebounds. Rae White added 11 points and Anna Chiacchia and Katie Pitcher had 10 apiece.

Heaven Rollek added nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals to go along with seven points.

Fredonia State opened with a 10-2 lead over the first six minutes of the game. The Devils connected on a trio of three pointers in the opening quarter to stake themselves to a 17-11 lead. They would total eight threes from six different players for the game.

Oswego would pull within four points a couple times in the second quarter before the Devils scored the final six points of the half to take a 32-21 lead into the locker room. Mickely led all scorers with nine points in the half.

The Devils scored the first three baskets of the second half to complete a 12-0 run and go up 38-21.

A three pointer by Audrey Craffey with just over three minutes left in the third gave the Devils a 21-point lead, their biggest of the game, 48-27.

Oswego would not roll over. A three pointer by Taylor Torchia made it an eight-point game, 58-50, with 3:43 left to play.

However, the Devils would turn up the heat and finish the game on a 13-2 run.

Oswego (5-4 overall / 1-2 SUNYAC) had three players in double digits, led by Torchia with 11. Quincy Zimmerman had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts.

The Devils (5-4 / 1-1) head to Cortland for a 2 p.m. tipoff on Saturday.
