Dunkirk 88, Allegany-Limestone 55

ALLEGANY — The Dunkirk Lady Marauders started off slow by their standards on Thursday night at Allegany-Limestone. The thing is, their slow start is still pretty good as far as many other teams are concerned. The Lady Marauders ran away from the Allegany-Limestone Lady Gators in the second half on their way to a CCAA Division 1 West victory, 88-55, at Allegany-Limestone High School.

Dunkirk (9-1, 3-1) was all locked up with Allegany-Limestone at 13-13 after the first quarter, after point guard Jessica Beehler struggled with early fouls and the team came out flat off the long bus ride to Allegany.

“It was just a really slow quarter for us. … We didn’t come out with a lot of energy,” said Dunkirk coach Ken Ricker.

The Lady Marauders scored 22 points in the second quarter for a 35-26 lead at the break. Then in the third quarter, Dunkirk outscored the Lady Gators 29-9 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

“In the second quarter, we got it going, but the second half, the shots started to fall,” said Ricker.

Tachiana Garcia hit three 3-pointers off the bench in the second half to score 11 points on the night, marking her first time scoring in double digits in her varsity career. Olivia Smith hit four 3-pointers in the second half and finished with 14 points, while Kymi Nance had 16 points to follow up her game-winning shot earlier this week over Southwestern.

As has been the case all season long, Nadara O’Dell paced the Lady Marauders offensively with 31 points. Beehler helped lead the offense by facilitating with 14 assists, along with her nine points.

Dunkirk now looks ahead to hosting Fredonia on Monday night at 6 p.m.
