Fredonia wrestling tops Portville 52-29

OBSERVER Staff Report

PORTVILLE — The Fredonia Hillbillies closed out their excellent season in the ring on Tuesday night with a 52-29 victory over the CCAA Division 2 Champion Portville Panthers. The Hillbillies finished 22nd overall on the season, while competing against a tough schedule, of which two of the teams will be competing in the New York State Dual Championship.

Standing out for the ‘Billies tonight was Antonio Pagan, who beat Portville’s Braxton Stone, Hunter Larson, who beat Portville’s Kirkland Hall, and Lucas Hoffman, who beat Mario Pascucci. Hoffman in particular was one in particular who coach Joe Santilli was pleased with.

“He wrestled with an energy that’s been lacking lately,” Santilli said.

David Ball, Jake Skinner, Jack Storm, and Ceric Kristan each had strong days as well, winning their matches.

Fredonia will now shift their focus to preparing for the postseason, as they’ll be competing in the Section VI, Class B Championships at Cheektowaga High School on Saturday, Feb. 8.
