High school girls basketball roundup

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds used a 15-4 first quarter to kick-start a 61-30 victory over Olean on Wednesday night in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West action.

The Lady Thunderbirds (11-7, 5-6) were led by 15 points from Rebecca Henry and 14 points from Lily Woodis. Lauren Alfa also drained a team-high two 3-pointers on her way to 10 points.

Norah Sweitzer led the Huskies (2-14, 1-9) with 11 points, draining three 3-pointers.

Henry and Alexis Jacobson led Chautauqua Lake with seven rebounds apiece; Jacobson dished out a team-high eight assists; Kyleigh Perdue had four steals; and Mercedez Obert had a team-high four blocked shots.

NOTES: For the third straight year, Chautauqua Lake’s meeting with Maple Grove on Friday will serve as charity game to raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. All proceeds of the night will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Western New York.

North Collins 46, Pine Valley 29

NORTH COLLINS — The North Collins Lady Eagles earned their fourth win of the season on Wednesday with a 46-29 win over the Pine Valley Lady Panthers in a CCAA East 2 Division girls basketball game at North Collins High School.

After a 47-36 loss the night prior against Salamanca, the Lady Eagles earned their second league win of the year with a nice bounce back against Pine Valley (2-17, 2-5), who was coming off a 55-39 win over Ellicottville the night prior. North Collins (4-11, 2-5) was led by Makenna Williams with 19 points, while Hailey Jasinski added 14 points and Michaela Rice had 10 points of her own.

The two teams are tied in both league play and power point average with one game remaining. On Friday, North Collins hosts Ellicottville, while Pine Valley goes to Cattaraugus/Little Valley. Should the two teams have the same result on Friday, the higher postseason seed — should neither team opt out of the Sectional playoffs — would go to North Collins because of the overall win percentage tiebreaker.

Portville 58, Gowanda 29

PORTVILLE — The Gowanda Lady Panthers fell to Portville on Wednesday night by a score of 58-29 in CCAA East 1 Division girls basketball action at Portville High School.

Shayla Wilhelm led Portville with 17 points, while Mallory Welty had 16 points herself. Karly Welty had 10 points, while Reggie Tkacik had nine points.

Portville improves to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in league play, while Gowanda falls to 3-12 overall and 1-7 in league play. Portville plays at Falconer on Friday, while Gowanda hosts Franklinville on Friday. Both games are CCAA East 1 league contests.
