Blue Devils women fall to Buff. State, 96-56

The Fredonia State women’s basketball team fell 96-56 to Buffalo State on Saturday night to conclude its season. The win for the Bengals earned them another point in the Battle by the Lake competition. Seniors Anna Chiacchia and Trisha Lane also completed their four-year careers for the Devils.

The Blue Devils offense was led by Lauren Mickley with 13 points and Katie Pitcher with 12. Morgan Davis and Chiacchia both contributed eight points.

The first quarter proved to be all Bengals as they outscored the Blue Devils 33-13. Buffalo State exploded for six three’s in the quarter, shooting 75% from behind the line. At one point, Buffalo State rattled off a 16-0 run to bring the score to 32-9. Liv LeBaron led the offense, scoring 14 in the first ten minutes of action. She finished with 41, leading all players.

Buffalo State outscored Fredonia State 22-12 in the second and held a 55-25 lead heading into the half.

The third quarter was highlighted for the Blue Devils by a half-court heave from Jayla James to beat the buzzer, but the Bengals expanded the lead by nine more points, 79-40.

Fredonia State finishes the season with a 9-16 overall record, and 5-13 in the SUNYAC. The Bengals improved to 15-10 overall and 11-7 in the conference.
