North Collins ends with a win at Eden

EDEN — The North Collins Eagles completed their regular season with their ninth win of the year on Tuesday night with a 58-48 victory over the Eden Raiders in a non-league boys basketball game at Eden High School.

North Collins (9-11) led by four points after the first quarter, 15-11, then by six points at halftime, 28-22. Eden (5-14) responded by outscoring North Collins 16-8 in the third quarter to take a two-point lead into the final quarter. While North Collins may have folded at the adversity in the past, this year’s Eagles are a much-improved group from a year ago. North Collins finished off the game with a 22-10 fourth quarter to earn the victory.

“This has been a good year for us,” said North Collins coach Jan Warren. “The Ellicottville game (a 61-48 loss last week) was a good game for us. This year, even most of the losses weren’t as bad as they have been in the past.”

North Collins was 21-for-34 from the free-throw line on Tuesday. Tyler Robinson led the Eagles with 25 points and 13 rebounds, while shooting 11-for-15 from the line. Mitchell Warsaw also had a double-double in the win, with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

North Collins is now off until next Friday, when the Eagles will likely host Riverside in a 4/5 seed matchup in the Section VI, Class D playoffs.

“To close out the season with a win is good going into the playoffs,” said Warren. “They’re great kids. I’m glad they’re having the success they’re having. It’s awesome to have a home playoff game.”
