T’birds boys, girls both win

MAYVILLE — Kyleigh Perdue’s 15 points led No. 2 Chautauqua Lake to a 69-19 Section VI Class C-1 quarterfinal victory over No. 7 Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

Perdue, the lone senior on the team, also had four steals and five assists.

“It was Kyleigh’s last home game, so she played a really great game,” Chautauqua Lake (13-8) coach Bill Persons said of the senior, while also crediting junior Alexis Jacobson, who finished with 12 points, four steals and five assists.

“It’s really fun to see the kids hit the playoffs, catch their stride and really start to pick things up,” he added.

Rebecca Henry also had 12 points, while Mercedez Obert had four points and four steals.

Chautauqua Lake outrebounded Cattaraugus-Little Valley 40-28 and will face No. 6 Silver Creek on Wednesday at Jamestown Community College.

Abby Minnekine led the Timberwolves (6-14) with six points.

BOYS: Chautauqua Lake 71, Portville 56

PORTVILLE — No. 5 Chautauqua Lake used 28 points from Luke Waters and 25 points from Nate Adams to clinch a 71-56 Section VI Class C-1 quarterfinal victory over No. 4 Portville.

The Thunderbirds (6-15) outscored the Panthers 16-9 in the opening quarter and held a seven-point lead at half. Waters drained five 3-pointers, while Adams recorded a double-double in the victory, grabbing 12 rebounds.

Maxx Yehl recorded a double-double for Portville (12-9), scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 boards. Mike Stillman had 15 points and six assists, while Dalton Tobola had 14.

Chautauqua Lake will play the winner of today’s quarterfinal matchup between No. 1 Middle Early College and No. 8 Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

NOTES: Luke Ormsby had five rebounds, while Luke Waters had four steals for Chautauqua Lake. Michael Anderson also had three assists.
