Special to the OBSERVER

Fredonia Little League has cancelled its 2020 regular season. The decision was revealed Thursday in a statement below:

“It is with great disappointment, but a greater sense of responsibility that the Fredonia Little League Board of Directors has made the decision to cancel the 2020 regular (spring) season for all divisions of baseball and softball.

The safety and well-being of the children in our program is always at the forefront of every decision we make — none more so than this decision.

Registration fees for the 2020 season will be rolled over to the 2021 season. To assist those who may need financial help at this challenging time, families may request a refund of their 2020 registration fee through the league’s Facebook page or website. Refunds will be processed weekly, as they are received.

Likewise, we will extend the same flexibility to our sponsors, who will have the option to roll their 2020 sponsorship over to the 2021 season or receive a refund.

If cleared to resume normal activities in time, and if we are able to do so in a safe fashion, Fredonia Little League plans to continue to hold our Fall Ball season during August and September for residents of Fredonia Little League. Fall Ball would be expanded this year to include all levels of our program in an effort to provide baseball and softball opportunities to everyone in 2020. Registration for Fall Ball traditionally takes place during the third week of July.

The Board of Directors would like to thank everyone for their patience and support as we, like everyone else, navigate uncharted territory. We encourage everyone to follow suggested safety guidelines and make safe choices while we continue to await the time when we can safely reunite and ‘play ball’.”
