New ‘Pink The Rink’ jerseys, $100k goal set for 2021
Special to the OBSERVER
The 2021 Pink The Rink jerseys to be worn by the Fredonia State men’s hockey team will contain the names of every person, couple, or group ever honored at the annual event.
The names will be ghosted in pink on both sides of the white jerseys the Blue Devils will wear when they face the Oswego Lakers on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021. It’ll mark the 15th season the Blue Devils will wear pink jerseys as part of the annual event. Nameplate personalization began in 2008 and has resulted in well over $90,000 raised for the American Cancer Society.
Head Coach Jeff Meredith said he wanted to do something special to commemorate the milestone of surpassing $100,000 in donations. “I thought it would be nice,” he said, “to get everybody’s name on it.”
Coach Meredith said the sale of 2021 jerseys will begin in September so that more people can be recognized. More information will be released as the date approaches.
The jersey was designed by Pop Tops Sportswear of South Easton, Mass.
