Alumni golf tourney rescheduled

DUNKIRK — The 11th annual Dunkirk, Cardinal Mindszenty and Fredonia high schools golf tournament will be held Sept. 18 at Shorewood Country Club.

Registration for the scramble format event will begin at 8 a.m. in the grove next to the pro shop, followed by a group photo at 9:15 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

Included in the tournament will be a $500 hole-in-one contest, sponsored by Mary Asher in memory of Tom Asher; free hot dogs on the sixth hole, provided by Bob Bradigan; a live radio broadcast by WDOE sports announcer and Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame inductee Dan Palmer; a cash bar at 2:30 p.m.; dinner at 4 p.m.; and trophy presentation, door prizes and silent auction following dinner.

Dunkirk mayor Willie Rosas and Jack Shubert, Shorewood CC pro emeritus, will be the honorary starters.

The tournament benefits the Dunkirk-Fredonia Little League and girls softball programs, and “Summer Camp Better Than Others.”
