Lew Mead Memorial Fishing Tournament set for June 27

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Lakes Association will hold its 27th annual Lew Mead Memorial Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 27.

The tournament is free to all youth age 16 and under. No fishing license is necessary.

The event this year will be different than in the past due to the importance of social distancing. There will be no activities held at the state DEC boat launch on Dale Drive.

Instead contestants will start fishing any time after 7 a.m. and stop fishing by 2 p.m. Contestants will also take a selfie picture of themselves — with or without a fish — then text or email their photo along with their name, age and mailing address by 2 p.m. to postmaster@cassadagalakesassociation.com

Pictures will be posted on the CLA website and a 2020 Lew Meed Fishing Derby Medallion will be sent to the mailing address provided.

Ages groups include: 7 and under; 8 to 10 years old; 11 to 13 years old; and 14 to 16 years old.

The Cassadaga Lakes Association is not able to award prizes or giveaways this year due to economic and logistical considerations.

The picture of the biggest fish for each category will be submitted to the OBSERVER and The Post-Journal for publication.

For more information, contact Steve Wickmar, chairman, at 595-2900.
