Calph shoots 74 to win at Scenic Heights GC

WATTSBURG, Pa. — Robert Calph won his first event of the season by posting the low round of 74 at Scenic Heights Golf Course during Wednesday Travel League golf action.

Finishing in a tie for second place with 79s were Dave Wallace, Mike Wolfe and Dave Criscione. Wallace shot an even-par 36 for the low front nine and Wayne Ormsby shot an even-par 36 for the low back nine.

The B Flight winner was Wayne Stoughton. In the C Flight, Dan Kaszuba won on a tiebreaker with Pat Weaver and Tony Destro. The D Flight winner in his Wednesday Travel League debut was Rob Tracy. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Bob Kujawa, after a tiebreaker with John Tofil.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Wallace (No. 3), Pete Gawron (No. 4), Calph (Nos. 10, 12), Ormsby (No. 14), John Waterman (No. 15) and Wolfe (Nos. 16, 17); B Flight — Stoughton (Nos. 1, 3, 14), Gary Haase (No. 3), John Bongiovanni Jr. (Nos. 7, 11), Pete Pinkoski (Nos. 12, 15), Joe Bifaro (Nos. 16, 17) and Lenny Leszkowicz (No. 18); C Flight — Destro (No. 6), Ron Szach (No. 10), Larry Klajbor (No. 11), Dave Franklin (No. 12), Kaszuba (No. 13) and Weaver (No. 15); D Flight — Bill Aldrich (Nos. 12, 14).

Closest to the pin were Brian Lore (No. 1), Wallace (No. 3), Stoughton (No. 14) and Leszkowicz (No. 18, 18 inches from the cup).

Top point winners were Stoughton (60), Wallace and Leszkowicz (48 each) and Aldrich (36). Season points leaders: 1. Stoughton (145), 2. Frank Benamati and Calph (94 each), 4. Leszkowicz (92), 5. Wallace (87), 6. Butch Mackowiak (81), 7. Jeff Marsowicz (80), 8. Haase (67), 9. Aldrich (63), 10. Wolfe (60).

Milestone hit this week: Ed Tofil was the first golfer in league history to record 300 career birdies.
