Yanks claim another Senior League crown

The Yankees (8-1) captured their third straight Men’s Senior Baseball League regular-season title, shutting down the high-powered Kosciuszko Club Phillies, 8-1.

Justyn Vara was outstanding on the mound in six shutout innings of work, striking out 10 and allowing only two hits, both to his brother, Eric Vara. Joe Pantano mopped up in the seventh. Matt Eaker (two doubles) and Joe Polichetti each collected two hits for the Yankees.

Bryant Watts and Mark Zinni shared the pitching duties for the Phillies, walking four and striking out seven. Watts (double) collected the only other hit for the Phillies.

The Pro-Bat Yankees (7-1) pushed across three six-inning runs and held on to beat the Gowanda Phoenix Lodge No. 262 Cubs, 8-3.

Hot-hitting Joe Polichetti (three hits, including a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored) again led the way for the Bombers, while Allan Carmello and son Evan each collected two hits.

Dennis Gawronski (one strikeout, two walks) earned the pitching victory, allowing two earned runs in five-plus innings of work. Matt Cole closed the game, picking up his third save of the year.

For the Cubs (5-3), John Greene, Jordan Morrison and Sebastian Orsene each collected two hits. Jamie Walschlager took the loss on the mound. He and Mike Ferguson collectively walked five and struck out two.
