Stauffer captures WNYPGA Match Play championship

EAST AURORA — Kirk Stauffer, PGA director of golf at Chautauqua Golf Club, won the WNYPGA Match Play Championship for the fourth time at Crag Burn Golf Club by defeating Rodney Blair, PGA professional at the Park Club, 4 & 3.

In the semifinals, Blair defeated Jack Widger of Elkdale CC, on the 21st hole and Stauffer defeated Conor Grandin of Oak Hill CC, 2 up.

In the quarterfinals, Stauffer defeated Jon Hoecker of Brook Lea CC on the 19th hole; Conor Grandin defeated Jeff Kaye of Livingston CC, 4 & 3; Widger defeated Tom Keenan, PGA life member, 5 & 3; and Blair defeated Rob Horak of Midvale CC, 3 & 2.

In the round of 16, Stauffer beat Crag Burn GC’s Mark Kirk, 1 up; Bartlett CC’s Dwayne Randall lost to Hoecker, 2 & 1; Lakewood Golf Center’s Pat Damore lost to Horak, 2 & 1; and Widger beat top seed Mike Sweazy of Wild Wood CC, 4 & 3.

Earlier, Dwayne Randall, St. Bonaventure assistant golf coach and Bartlett Country Club pro, took home the Locust Hill Country Club Pro-Am with a 4-under-par 68, while Stauffer shot a 1-under-par 71 to finish third. Widger finished tied for 10th with a 74 and Damore tied for 18th with a 77.
