Southwestern boys, Falconer/CV girls run to win

FALCONER — Southwestern was able to edge out host Falconer/Cassadaga Valley, finishing one point ahead in the boys race. Joey Pillittieri led the Golden Cougars with a 17:35, but was followed closely by Southwestern’s Ethan Luce (17:48).

Silver Creek finished in third with 85 points.

In the girls race Marie Lemay led the hosts with a 21:34, while Lily Nelson took sixth for Southwestern (22:40).

The hosts. who placed one through five, finished with a perfect score, 15 points, ahead of Silver Creek (51) and Southwestern (63).

JHS BOYS, MG GIRLS PREVAIL

BEMUS POINT — Jamestown was able to pick up a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association win over Maple Grove during the boys race, finishing with 23 points behind Drew Carlson’s winning time of 17:06.

Maple Grove grabbed 36 points, with Lukas Baer and Alex Crist taking second and third, respectively.

Dunkirk took third with 85 points.

The Red Dragons won the girls race with 15 points, topping the Red Raiders (49) and the Marauders.

Ava Crist was first with a 19:56 for Maple Grove, Siera Porpiglia led Dunkirk (24:11) and Alyson Canfield was eighth for Jamestown (24:58).

“Drew Carlson took the lead from the start line and ran a strong race all the way to the finish to take first place ahead of Lukas Baer,” Maple Grove coach Steve Matteson said. “Ava Crist had her strongest race of the season today. She has always been able to get stronger and faster as the season gets closer to the postseason every year that I have been able to coach her.”

SWABIK LEADS WOLFPACK

PANAMA — John Swabik claimed the boys race in 18:37.8 to lead host Clymer/Sherman/Panama (29) to a win over Frewsburg (44) and Fredonia (59).

Toby Gifford was second for the Bears in 19:07.1, while Owen Ludwig led Fredonia with a fifth-place time of 20:31.

The hosts also won the girls team title with 20 points, ahead of Fredonia (36).

Acacia Barber took first for Frewsburg in 20:37.4, Tayden Persons second for the Wolfpack (22:41.5) and Ashlyn Ambrose sixth for Fredonia (24:00.5).

GOWANDA BOYS, GIRLS LEAD

OLEAN — Gowanda claimed the boys race at Forness Park on Tuesday with 25 points, ahead of the Huskies (49) and visiting Randolph (57).

Talon Rowland finished first for Randolph in 17:53, ahead of Jack DeRose of Olean (18:37) and Drew Schull of Gowanda (18:54).

Gowanda snuck out a win in the girls race with 26 points to 29 for Randolph.

Syndey Smith led the Cardinals with a first-place finish of 21:17 while Nya Martinelli of Olean was second in 22:13.

LITTLE VALLEY — Visiting Allegany-Limestone claimed the boys race at the Pat McGree Trail, finishing with 15 points to 69 for Franklinville/Ellicottville.

Ryan Wisniewski was the individual winner with a time of 16:20 for the Gators, while Cayden Hatch led Franklinville/Ellicottville with a time of 17:50, good for sixth place.

The Gators also claimed the girls race with 22 points, while host Cattaraugus-Little Valley was second with 59 and Franklinville/Ellicottville third with 63.

Angelina Napoleon was first for Allegany-Limestone in 18:52 and Emma Pocabello third for the Timberwolves (21:48), while Tarry Herman was fourth for Franklinville/Ellicottville with a 22:01.
