Kaus fires career-low round of 77

WESTFIELD — Ken Kaus shot 77, a personal career low round, in the Wednesday Travel League, to tie Wayne Stoughton for the low round at Pinehurst Golf Club.

Stoughton was the overall winner via his birdie on the first handicap hole. Ed Tofil finished third with 84. Stoughton was low on the front nine with 37 while Kaus was low on the back nine with 38. In the B Flight, Dan Halter was the winner in his league debut, besting Dave Franklin and Gary Haase on a tiebreaker. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was John Waterman.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Kaus (Nos. 1, 3, 7), Dave Wallace (No. 6), Jeff Marsowicz (No. 11) and Mike Wolfe (No. 16); B Flight — Lenny Leszkowicz (No. 3), Franklin (Nos. 4, 10), Waterman (Nos. 7, 18), Halter (No. 9) and Haase (Nos. 11, 16).

Closest to the pin were Bill Aldrich (No. 4), Pat Weaver (No. 7), Haase (No. 13) and Marsowicz (No. 16).

Top point winners were Kaus (29), Franklin and Waterman (19 each), Haase (16) and Wolfe (15). Season points leaders: 1. Wolfe (443), 2. Haase (326), 3. Weaver (311), 4. John Tofil (310), 5.
