Clymer dominates second half to down Panama

CLYMER — A 9-0 run at the end of the first half gave Clymer the lead for good in a 56-26 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West victory over Panama.

The Panthers (0-3, 0-3) led 18-17 late in the second quarter before the Pirates (4-0, 4-0) had their run keyed by 5 points from Hunter Wassink. The senior captain then scored 6 more points during the third quarter, in which Clymer outscored the guests, 13-3.

Wassink led the hosts with 22 points while Matthew White grabbed nine rebounds. Bishop Kopta had five rebounds and five steals.

Gabe Roth led Panama with 9 points to go along with six rebounds; Brent Marotto had 8 points and four steals; and Nick Huffman grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

SWABIK, CARRIS POWER SHERMAN

SHERMAN — John Swabik and Gerald Carris combined for 42 points in the first three quarters as Sherman breezed to an 87-34 Division 2 West win over Cassadaga Valley.

Swabik had all 21 of his points in the first half as the Wildcats built a 46-23 lead. Carris remained in the game for about another four minutes and finished with 21 points of his own as Sherman led 67-25 after three quarters.

In his first varsity game, Elijah Kioko had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats (3-1, 3-1). Swabik had seven rebounds, five assists and five steals; Carris had five rebounds and three assists; and Keith Gormley had 11 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Wyatt Harrington led the Cougars (0-6, 0-4) with 12 points.

Aidan Kennedy had 18 points to lead Southwestern, which led Gowanda 29-0 after the first quarter en route to a 74-36 nonleague victory.

All 10 players scored for the Trojans (5-0, 3-0 CCAA D1 West). Jason Ni grabbed six rebounds and Max Marshall had five rebounds in the win.

John Ondus led the Panthers (1-3, 1-2) with 13 points.

PORTVILLE SURVIVES LATE

PORTVILLE — Franklinville’s last-second jumper from the free throw line bounced off the rim and Portville escaped with a 46-45 nonleague victory.

Maxx Yehl led Portville (2-2, 1-1 CCAA D1 East) with 16 points and 15 rebounds; Joe Long had 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals; and Nathan Petruzzi grabbed seven rebounds.

Logan Frank led Franklinville (3-1, 3-0 CCAA D2 East) with 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists while Blake Frank had 18 points and five steals.

CATTARAUGUS — Host Cattaraugus-Little Valley (2-1) topped Pine Valley, 51-46, on Thursday in Division 2 East play behind 11 points from Johnny Visnesky and 10 from Clayton Frentz.

Kordell Oakes led Pine Valley 0-2) with 17 points. Bryce Sercu had 12 points and seven assists; Wayne Libby eight rebounds and nine points; and Travis West 16 rebounds for Pine Valley.
