Collin Barmore (Cassadaga Valley/Gerry) was named a SUNY Fredonia Devil of the Week after recent success on the track.
The sophomore won his heat of the 1,500 meters in 4:07 and anchored the men's 3,200-meter relay to victory at the St. John Fisher Classic on Friday. He is now in the SUNYAC Top 5 in the 800 meters and in the Top 10 in the 1,500 meters.
Jane Chiacchia (Hamburg/Hamburg) earned the award for women's athletics after winning her No. 1 singles match and teaming with Gabby Gance for a win at No. 1 doubles in the Blue Devils' 7-2 home win over Oswego on Sunday. Chiacchia improved to 4-1 in singles and 4-1 in doubles this season.
MONDAY
DEVILS SWEEP ASU
The Fredonia State baseball team used a couple of solid pitching outings to sweep Alfred State, 3-1 and 6-3, on Monday. Senior Sam Cestra went the distance in Game 1, while freshman Korey Canton pitched into the sixth before giving way to Keny Ynoa, who picked up the save in Game 2.
Cestra scattered four hits, struck out three and walked one in an 85-pitch complete game. The lone blemish came on a Jack Henby solo home run in the fifth.
