Class C South matchup postponed

Friday night’s Class C South showdown between Southwestern and Clymer/Sherman/Panama was seen by many as the local football game of the year.

Now it won’t happen.

Kevin Salisbury, the Trojans athletic director, said in an email Tuesday afternoon that the game has been postponed and at this point has not been rescheduled.

At Tuesday evening’s regularly scheduled meeting of the Southwestern Board of Education, it was mentioned that the Trojans football team has been placed in a COVID-19 quarantine.

“As of today, the football team was quarantined,” student body representative McKay Young said.

The teams have opened the season with matching 2-0 records.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama has outscored its opponents 95-0 after shutting out both Springville (46-0) and Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton (49-0).

Southwestern has been equally impressive, outscoring its opponents 74-18 after taking down Fredonia (31-12) and Allegany-Limestone (43-6).

Unless both teams find themselves with open dates in the final two weeks of the regular season, they will likely not see each other until a possible Section VI playoff matchup.
