JCC women to play for Region 3 title

Looking to keep its season going for a few more weeks, the Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team will play in the NJCAA Region 3 Division II championship game at Niagara County CC at noon today.

The Jayhawks (3-7) are 1-3 against the Thunderwolves after a narrow 94-89 setback Tuesday. In the game, freshman forward Nadara Odell(Dunkirk/Dunkirk High School) had a game-high 31 points while freshman forward Hannah Hicks (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights)posted her seventh double-double of the season with a 20-point, 22-rebound performance. Freshman guard Kymi Nance (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) added 21 points.

Hicks has been a force against Niagara County CC this season, averaging 19 points and 19 rebounds per contest. Hicks also scored a career-high against the Thunderwolves with 33 points on March 24.

As a team, the Jayhawks are averaging 94.8 points per game on 35.8 percent shooting from the field against the Thunderwolves. Odell leads the way, averaging 22.8 points, including a career-high 33 points in a 119-111 victory. Nance is adding 18.3 points per contest, including a career-high 30 points in the same game. Freshman guard Jessica Beehler (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) has been the facilitator of the offense, averaging 7.7 assists per contest.

On the glass, the Jayhawks are averaging 62.9 rebounds per game. To go along with Hicks’ 19 rebounds per outing, Odell is chipping in with 8.3 rebounds per contest.

In their last game against the Jayhawks, the Thunderwolves were led by Gabrielle McDuffie with 19 points and 15 rebounds with Alania Forbes adding 20 points. Ashley Tucker came up big on the glass, grabbing 14 rebounds.

In their matchups against the Jayhawks, the Thunderwovles are averaging 107 points while shooting 38.3 percent from the field. Niagara County CC has five players averaging double figures with McDuffie leading the way with 28 points per game.

On the boards, the ThunderWolves are averaging 76 rebounds per game with McDuffie leading the way at 15.7 per contest. Tucker is second on the team with 9.3 rebounds per game.
